Ethan’s Autoimmune Story

We found out around 7 years ago that Ethan has Autoimmune Hepatitis and that it was attacking his liver. His liver did not look too bad at the time, but we were informed this is an incurable disease and that he would likely need a liver transplant in the future.

Ethan was immediately put on a bunch of medications to try and slow down his liver damage, but a few months ago we were informed that his latest liver biopsy showed his liver was now in Stage Four Cirrhosis, also known as ‘end-stage liver disease’, is the most advanced and severe stage of liver damage. It occurs when the liver has been extensively scarred and can no longer function properly

We began a search for a living donor shortly after this, and now it seems to be a slow race to see if we can find a compatible donor nearby before things get really bad.
